School Fundraising

Basketball can be a great way to assist in school fundraising activities. If a school is looking to raise money for a particular cause, incorporating basketball ideas can be a great way to get people involved. Basektball is one of the most popular sports in Australia, with participation levels higher than most other sports at a junior level. Only football, netball and soccer have equally high participation rates.

Because of this, using the popularity of basketball to help your fundraiser can be a great idea. This is particularly true if your school has a sports centre with a basketball stadium. So what are some of the types of events you can implement as part of your school fundraising ideas and techniques? Here are a few that are lots of fun:

Staff versus Students
Organising a staff versus students match is always a lot of fun. Either the class doing the fundraising, or the school basketball team can play in the game, against a team made up of teachers. Selecting teachers who will be fun to watch will get more people involved. Promote the charity game at assembly and charge a small entry fee for other students to come and watch. You may also decide to sell refreshments or even hold a bbq at half time.

Basketball Raffle
Hold a raffle and make the prizes related to basketball. First prize could be a signed basketball singlet by one of the National Teams, or possibly a ball. Other prizes might include tickets to an NBL game, shorts or other fun basketball memorabilia. Sell tickets to other school children and also friends and family on the weekends.

Three Point Shootout
Always a popular event, a 3 point shootout can get everyone involved. Students (or teachers) pay a certain amount to have a turn. Set up shooting stations around the 3 point line, and have the participant take shots from the various positions. They only get a certain amount of time to complete all the shots. The person with the highest total score wins. The prize could include a basketball or even a trophy.
